The major dominions in Southern Italy
This course focuses on the dominions that characterized the history of Southern Italy. In particular, the course will provide participants with an outline from the Norman conquest in XI century, by Robert Guiscard, up to the Crown of Aragon and the House of Bourbon. Classes will also explore the historical figures, queens, kings, popes, and conquerors who influenced the history of the Southern Italy.
This course also included guide historical tours to Salerno, Naples and Caserta. On-site classes and visual media may supplement lectures and presentations.
Course Schedule:
Contact hours: 45 lessons
Guided Excursions: 15 hours/ 4 full day excursions (Salerno, Naples, Caserta, Capodimonte Museum)
Credits: 3 credits
Learning outcomes:
At the completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the main historical events and dominions which characterized the history of Southern Italy.
- Analyze the Southern Italy culture through its past history
- Know about the historical figures who characterized the history of Southern Italy
Assessment:
Attendance (20%) Course Participation ( 5%), Assignments ( 4 short papers- 20%), Mid- Term Exam (15%), Oral Presentation (10%) Final Exam ( 30%)
