Discovering Italy through the Arts
This course provides students with an overview of the Italian culture, art and society. The course is divided into 3 modules:
1st module: theoretical classes about Italian society, political system, traditions;
2nd module: classes about Italian History of Arts with a particular focus on Greek and Roman Art and the Renaissance;
3rd module: on sites guided visits to Pompeii, Paestum, Naples (Archaeological Museum) , Caserta (Royal Palace) .
In class sessions will prepare students to the on-site visits. This course is often offered with the Faculty Led Programs.

- 30 in class lessons
- 30 hours on site visits
Number of credits: 3 credits
Learning outcomes:
At the completion of this course, participants will:
- Have a clear understanding of Italian society and culture
- Learn to examine the cultural issues of Italian society
- Develop critical thinking about Italian culture and society
- Be able to identify and understand the key trends of Greek and Roman Art and of the Renaissanc
- Have a clear understanding of Roman Life
- Have a strong knowledge of the main monuments, archaeological sites in Campania, Florence and Rome
Assessment:
Final written exam (60%), mid-term written exam – essay (30%), oral presentation (10%)
